Langmessers, or Messers in general (meaning "long knife" or simply "knife"), were among the most popular sidearms in medieval society. They came in many forms and even survived into the 20th century as hunting swords. Initially favored by peasants, their popularity surged after being adopted by the middle class and rising mercenary forces. In addition to their knife-like shape, they typically featured a side cross called a "Nagel." The SIGI Messer is fully functional and ready for use in practice, sparring, tournaments, stage combat, or Renaissance fairs. It is safe, lightweight, flexible, and offers excellent control and durability. Its flex is similar to that of our arming swords. The handles are made from oak hardwood, which has a beautiful texture.
