The Montante, also known as Spadone or Zweihänder, is the largest of the late medieval/renaissance swords of Europe. A menace on the Landsknecht battlefield, warriors wielding this sword were known to be paid double wages. As the Italian master Giacomo di Grassi writes in his book, the long blade of the two-handed sword can defeat multiple opponents with its wide and dangerous cuts; its best at keeping enemies at bay. The montante was also a weapon of choice for private security and mercenaries, as evidenced by surviving fencing treatises. Nowadays its a popular tool for solo practice thanks to the many surviving Montante forms from the Spanish treatises. The SIGI Montante is light, nimble, and durable. Depending on the setup, the weight varies between 1800-2000g. It is more than just a tool for solo practice; the gentle SIGI Flex and the lower point of balance, combined with the relative light weight of the sword, allow you to use the SIGI Montante in controlled sparring.
