DESCRIPTION:​HEMA WashFechten 2026 will be a single day historical fencing event focused on a number of tournaments alongside a separate sparring area to the side. \nThe disciplines will be longsword open\, longsword womens\, and a RoW longsword invitational tournament. \nWe will be posting further information about them all in future. \nThe overall format of the tournaments will be the same as last year\, while some aspects will hopefully be a worthy improvement based on the constructive comments we’ve received on our first version of WashFechten and from what we’ve seen of various tournaments globally in the meantime. Its name is symbolically derived from the female character Walpurgis\, who appears in the illustrations of the Royal Armouries Ms. I.33. Its a seminar and tournament that seek\nIn terms of sports: To encourage the practice of historical fencing for recreational or competitive purposes\, as well as training in refereeing and HEMA instruction.\nIn terms of academics: To promote the study of the discipline’s historical sources\, disseminating knowledge and encouraging research and peer learning.\nIn terms of Community: To establish a safe and inclusive space for female fencers and those from underrepresented genders to meet\, cooperate\, and learn together.

DESCRIPTION:The Sofia CrossSwords team is proud to present Sofia Longsword Open 2026 – a full day dedicated entirely to longsword fencing\, featuring three tournaments.\nThe following day will once again be open for free sparring for everyone who decides to stay longer. \nOpen Longsword\nThe Open division will be separated into two tiers – Tier A and Tier B\nThe division will be determined after registrations close. Higher-rated fencers (according to HEMA Ratings) will be placed in Tier A\, with the remaining competitors in Tier B. \nLadies Longsword\nNo limit on the number of competitors. If registrations allow\, the division may also be separated into Tier A and Tier B.\nAll categories will be judged and scored by our local team together with guest judges. \nRules\nThe full ruleset can be found on sofiaxswords.com/rules. The basic scoring system is:\n– 2 points for any clean hit.\n– 1 point for the first hit followed by an afterblow.\n– 0 points for any double hit.\n– No afterblow after a head hit.\n– Hit quality is required. Unopposed flats are allowed only to the head; all other targets require edge alignment.\nVideo-Assisted Review (VAR) will be available at every stage of the tournament\, including pools and eliminations. \nEquipment\nFull protective gear is required.
