SUMMARY:Sofia Longsword Open
DESCRIPTION:Sofia CrossSwords team is presenting the first dedicated “Sofia Longsword Open” event. It will be a day focused entirely on Longsword with three competitions. The following day will be open for free sparring for anyone deciding to stay more. \nOpen Longsword with 48 people separated in two tiers:\n– Tier A – 16 fencers\n– Tier B – 32 fencers\nThe separation will be made according to the sign ups. The higher rated fencers (according to Hemaratings) will be placed in tier A\, the rest in tier B.\nLadies Longsword with no limit on the number of fencers. If enough fencers sign up a Tier separation is possible.\nAll categories will be judged and scored by our local team and guest judges. \nFull ruleset is posted on the website. Basic scoring is:\n– 2 points for any clean hit\n– 1 point for the first hit followed by an “afterblow”\n– 0 points for any double hit\n– No afterblow after head hit\n– Hit quality required\, unopposed flats allowed to the head\, edge required on all other targets\n– First to 12 points in pools wins; first to 15 points in elimination wins \nFull gear required. Full is posted on the website. Longswords allowed:\n1. Total length- from 105 to 135 cm.\n2. Weight- from 1300 – 1650 gr. (1200 – 1650 gr. for Ladies Longsword)\n3. Blade length- from 85 to 104 cm.\n4. Crossguard width- from 20 to 30 cm. (rings are not allowed)\n5. Grip length\, including pommel – from 20 to 35 cm.\n6. Ten invited pairs of fencers from across the UK and Europe will battle it out in four weapons. We’ll be putting on a show\, with multiple camera angles\, professional lighting\, and live commentary. \nOn Saturday\, we’ll be hosting Max van den Ekart of Houw en Hoede for a class\, followed by an open sparring session with our invited fencers.

Our goal has always been to give HEMA practitioners a fun and challenging opportunity to put our various theories to the test. \nThis year we’ll be serving up tournaments in two different events! That’s right – we will be having a tournaments in both Spring and Fall!\nSpring is offering a collection of tournaments including: \n– A Tier longsword: longsword for those who regularly place in tournaments\n– B Tier longsword: longsword for the majority of fencers- those who have competed before but do not feel ready for A tier\n– GenEq longsword: longsword for those who identify as women\, trans\, non binary\, or any other alternate genders\n– Beginners longsword: longsword for those who have never competed in a steel longsword tournament before\n– Open rapier: rapier alone\n– Open dussack: dussack alone\, weapons provided\n– Open Ringen: historical jacket wrestling\n– GenEq Ringen: historical jacket wrestling for women\, trans\, non binary or who identify as any other alternate genders.

DESCRIPTION:Ascalon Sword Festival is a premiere HEMA tournament\, featuring longsword\, which will be divided into Division 1\, 2 and 3\, Saber\, Rapier & Dagger\, and Marginalized Gender Longsword Tournament. \nRegistration is now OPEN. See below for event specific details. \nThe Open Longsword event will be split across 3 separate events – Divisions 1-3. The Top 8 finishers of all 3 divisions will receive medals. Fencers are free to register and place themselves as they choose\, but are expected to accurately place themselves using the descriptions below. The tournament staff reserves the right to shift fencers that staff believe are improperly placed. \nDivision 1 is recommended for fencers who regularly place in the top 25% of open events and/or have a rank of C or greater. \nDivision 2 is recommended for fencers that do not qualify for Div1 or Div3. Fencers who regularly finish in the top 25% of tournaments should apply for Division 1. Division 2 fencers may also choose to participate in Division 1. If you normally participate in an “Open” without getting into the table of 8\, this is the level for you. \nDivision 3 is recommended for those that are new to HEMA\, have difficulty winning bouts in their pool\, or fencers who do not normally progress past the first round of a DE. Division 3 fencers may also choose to participate in Division 2. \nThe Marginalized Gender event is open to trans and cis women\, trans men\, non-binary people\, intersex people\, and any other gender expansive people who are often underrepresented in HEMA. \nSaber and Rapier & Dagger will be run a standard open tournament\, all skill levels are welcome to participate. \nPlease see the rules for additional details.
